What are fibroids?

Fibroids – Non-Cancerous Tumors

Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that exist in the uterus. They form when a lot of estrogen and progesterone is produced during menstrual cycle.

Fibroids coexist with the normal uterine tissue, and they both grow when they interact with estrogen and progesterone. However, fibroids grow much faster than uterine tissue due to their cells being able to interact with more estrogen and progesterone. As a result, they can grow and cause inflammation in the uterus. This inflammation can prevent successful embryo implantation and development. They can even go outside the uterus in stems.

What should I do next?

Myomectomy – Surgery to eliminate the fibroids (Watch the video below to learn how a laparoscopic myomectomy happens)

Additional help: Lupron medications (will suppress growth but not totally eliminate the fibroids)

If you use a surgery, you can remove the fibroids, especially the exposed ones inside in the uterus. The surgery can be conducted by opening the abdomen and removing the fibroids on the exterior on the uterus. It also can be done by using a laparoscopy to remove the the fibroids in the interior of the uterus.

By taking Lupron Medications daily, you can stop estrogen and progesterone production to help suppress the growth of fibroids. You can reduce the size of the fibroids considerably using Lupron, but it will not fully remove it. It can grow back in the future, unless you have menopause.

What can fibroids do to my fertility?

Fibroids can prevent embryo implantation if they emerge in the uterine lining. An embryo needs a place in the uterine lining to implant and settle down, but if too much area is covered by fibroids, then the embryo may not find a place to implant. If the embryo does not find a place to implant, it will not be able to develop into a baby.
