Receptiva

What is Receptiva?

Receptiva is a test to determine if you have endometriosis, progesterone resistance, and inflammation on the uterus.

receptiva endometriosis and inflammation

Why is Receptiva important?

It can help diagnose endometriosis much easier than using a surgery. Knowing if you have endometriosis is important because it can cause infertility by damaging the fallopian tubes that carry the eggs.

In addition, if you have endometriosis or inflammation in the uterus, it could prevent an embryo from implanting and developing. It also could lead to pregnancy loss. As a result, if there is inflammation, embryo transfers will have to be delayed until the inflammation is fixed.

It has been found that the more failed embryo transfers a woman has, the higher the chance of a chemical marker such as BCL6 being found. BCL6 is a chemical Receptiva looks for to indicate whether someone has endometriosis or not.

Embryos cannot implant and develop when there is endometriosis or inflammation at the uterus. When endometriosis causes internal bleeding or there is inflammation, white blood cells rush to the uterus. White blood cells do not discriminate between bacteria and embryos, so the embryo is disposed. It is suboptimal to do an embryo transfer when someone has endometriosis or inflammation.

How is Receptiva conducted?

The test is conducted using a biopsy, which simply swabs a sample of the some of the tissue in the uterus. In simple terms, they swab the inside of uterus. There are chemical markers such as BCL6 inside uterus. They can indicate whether someone has endometriosis or not. They can also indicate whether someone has inflammation or not on the uterus.

What to do going forward after a positive test?

If you tested positive for Receptiva, you can do these options:

1. Have a laparoscopy surgery removing the endometriosis

2. Have an estrogen suppression therapy to reduce inflammation from endometriosis. This is typically done using Lupron medications.

When BCL6 was identified and laparoscopy or Lupron was used:

79% Pregnancy Rate

64% Live Birth Rate

When BCL6 was identified and Lupron was used:

81% Pregnancy Rate

68% Live birth rate

We could also conclude that Lupron is more successful in removing endometriosis than using surgery.

Whenever Receptiva tested positive untreated, the patient had only a 11% chance of a live birth, but whenever Receptiva tested negative, the patient had a 59% chance of a live birth.
